Dachshunds or Weiner dogs are members of the hound family having a long history dating back to the ancient Egyptian times. However, the modern dachshunds being natives of Germany were originally bred to hunt badgers. Later small sizes of these dogs were bred to hunt smaller animals such as rabbits, foxes, and weasels.
